Suay Aksoy

ICOM

Suay Aksoy is the Chair of the Advisory Committee of ICOM (International Council of Museums), the Chair of CAMOC (International Committee for City Museums) and the ex-officio Member of the ICOM Executive Council.

She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Museum Management and Museums and Cultural Heritage at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and the Bogazici University.

She served as a member of the Executive Board of the Istanbul European Capital of Culture Initiative Group, the NGO that earned Istanbul the aimed title. After the establishment of the Istanbul 2010 ECoC Agency, she worked there as the Director of Cultural Heritage and Museums, April 2008-December 2010. In this period she lead various major projects like the Strategic Plan/Vision Report on the Imperial Courtyard and the Report on a Model Proposition for the Rehabilitation of Museums in Turkey.

Suay Aksoy has committed herself primarily to civil societal activities since 1995. She is a trustee (since 1996) and a long term Board member (2004-2013) of the History Foundation of Turkey. She has headed museum projects and activities for the Foundation as a volunteer from 2001 to 2008.

She is a founding member of KA-DER (Association for Supporting Woman Candidates) and also of Acik Radyo (Open Radio) and has served on their Boards for various terms. She is a member and the founding Chair (2011-2013) of the Association of Museum Professionals of Turkey.

Aksoy has a BA in Economics, an MA in Political Science and a Post Graduate Diploma in Museum Studies.
