Deniz Ünsal

Born in 1972 in Ankara. She graduated from Middle East Technical University in 1994, completed her MAs in European Studies and later in Social and Cultural Anthropology in Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. She obtained her PhD in 2004 at Columbia University in Anthropology.
Ünsal worked as assistant curator in Amsterdam at KIT Tropenmuseum between 2001-2004. She was employed at İstanbul Modern between  2004-2005. She has been teaching, researching and writing since 2005 at İstanbul Bilgi University’s Department of Arts and Cultural Management. She frequently consults to museum, exhibition and heritage projects.
Recent museum projects include: Çanakkale Troia Museum Project (2011, Yalın Architecture, Ministry of Culture and Tourism), Ecomuseum Zavot: Cheese-museum in Kars (2012, Boğatepe Association), Mersin Archeology Museum Project (2013, MEFA Architecture, Ministry of Culture and Tourism), Arnavutköy Hadımköy Museum Project (2013- , Istanbul Bilgi University, Arnavutköy Muncipality).
Recent research in heritage studies: Diyarbakır Historic Walls and Towers (2013, in collaboration with Dr. Yıldız Salman and Diyarbakır Site Management Directorship). Ünsal publishes in museum and heritage studies.
